About

The AGI Open is an international design conference that brings together designers from the Alliance Graphique Internationale. This year, it will be held in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand.

What is the AGI Open?

Each year members of the Alliance Graphique Internationale convene in a different city at the AGI Congress. Here, members meet in a spirit of friendship, curious to hear of each other’s activities, keen to debate the profession and learn more of their host city.

Since 2010, under the presidency of Paula Scher, AGI Open has run concurrently with the Congress. These industry and student-focused conferences have taken place in Porto, Barcelona, Paris, Seoul, Biel/Bienne, São Paulo, London, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Rotterdam and Trieste.

Central to the success of AGI Open is that members freely participate in talks and events that extend knowledge and encourage generations of students and designers in attendance, some of whom will go on to become members in the future.

AGI Open is a not-for-profit event. All AGI members pay for their expenses and receive no fee for their participation.

What is AGI?

Founded in 1951 by two Swiss and three French graphic designers, AGI’s mission is to promote graphic design by means of talks, publications and educational activities.

Currently AGI has a membership of 507 professionals from 46 countries. The most influential personalities in the history of graphic design were or are on the list: A.M. Cassandre, F.H.K. Henrion, Josef Müller-Brockmann, Armin Hofmann, Paul Rand, Saul Bass, Massimo Vignelli, Wim Crouwel, to name a few— but also outstanding contemporary practitioners.

AGI is continuing to expand in diversity in medium, ethnicity, practice, education and geography.
