Taku Satoh

TSDO Inc.

Taku Satoh was born in Tokyo, and graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in Design, in 1979, then from its Graduate School in 1981.

After initially working for Dentsu, Inc., he established Taku Satoh Design Office Inc. (TSDO Inc.) in 1984. Starting with the product development of ‘Nikka Whiskey Pure Malt’, he created well-known package designs for the top brands in the Japanese market share such as ‘LOTTE XYLITOL’ chewing gum series, ‘Meiji Oishii Gyunyu’ milk and the graphic design for ‘PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE’.

He conceived the logomarks for ‘21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa’, ‘National Museum of Nature and Science’, and ‘National High School Baseball Championship’. He has served as art director for Nihongo de Asobo children’s programme on the educational channel of NHK Television, overall supervisor of ‘Design Ah!’, ‘Design Ah! neo’ on the same channel, and director of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT gallery.

He has planned exhibitions such as Water (2007), JOMONESE (2012), Design Anatomy (2016), and Design Ah! (2013, 2018-2020). Additionally, he is the president of Japan Graphic Design Association Inc. (JAGDA). His publications include Sosuru Shiko (Shinchosha, 2017), Mark Book (Kinokuniya Company, 2022), and Just Enough Design (Chronicle Books, 2022).
